Opening Song: A Child's Prayer  (PCS#12)

Lesson:

Today we are going to learn about a scripture hero.  His name is Enos.

One day Enos went into the forest to hunt animals. He began thinking about the teachings of his father. He had often heard his father talk about eternal life and the joy of those who keep God’s commandments.  Enos wanted to have that joy.

(show GAB 72/GAK 305)

He knelt down and prayed to Heavenly Father to forgive him of his sins. Enos prayed all day and into the night.

- Have you ever prayed all day and all night?  Why do you th8ink Enos prayed for so long?

While Enos was praying, he heard the voice of the Lord say to him, “Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed”  Enos knew his sins were forgiven.

Enos wanted all the Nephites to feel the joy he felt, so he prayed for them. The voice of the Lord again came to his mind. The Lord said He would bless the Nephites if they kept His commandments.

Then Enos prayed for his enemies, the Lamanites. The Lamanites were wicked. They fought the Nephites, trying to destroy them and their records. He wanted the records of his people (or scriptures) to be preserved so that someday the Lamanites would read them and believe. The Lord said to Enos, “I will grant unto thee according to thy desires, because of thy faith”.

Enos was happy. He spent the rest of his life preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As children of our Heavenly Father one of our greatest privileges is to communicate with Him in prayer.  Heavenly Father loves you. You are His child. Joseph Smith and Enos both prayed in a forest.  Moses prayed on a mountain.  We often pray in our homes and in church. We can also pray at school, on the playground or anywhere else we want.  Heavenly Father wants you to pray to Him often—anytime, anywhere.

Bear your testimony about prayer.  Share a specific time in your own life when you prayed at an unusual time or in an unusual place and how that prayer was answered.

(For tips on sharing your testimony please click here.)

Practice Song: If you are teaching your family the JUNE Song of the Month, go over the words and music with your family.

I really like the simple version of the story of Enos. I usually have to put the picture scriptures in my own words, so this will help. Thanks!
