Scripture: 3 Nephi 1:21 - And it came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word.

Opening Song: Silent Night (LDS Hymn #204)

Lesson:

Heavenly Father uses righteous men, called Prohets, to teach and testify of Christ.  Many of these men lived long before the Saviour was born.  But they knew He would come and they prophesied (or told things that would happen) of His coming in scripture.  Isaiah, Micah, Alma, Nephi and Samuel the Lamanite were all Prophets who prophesied of Christ's birth.  Tonight we are going to talk about two of those Prophets.

(show GAK 113:  Isaiah Writes of Christ’s Birth)

740 years before Jesus was born a Prophet named Isaiah wrote, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." (Immanuel is another name that Jesus goes by).  (Isaiah 7:14)

Isaiah and otehr Prophets lived around Jerusalem, close to where Jesus was born. They wrote their testimonies in the bible. The Book of Mormon is a second written witness of Jesus Christ and tells what happened in the Americas when he was born.

Prophets prepared the people to know that Christ would come.  And even so, some people still did not believe.  A Book of Mormon Prophet named Samuel the Lamanite told the people there would be signs that happened to let them know when Christ would be born.  There would be a day, a night, and a day without darkness. A new star would appear, and there would be other signs in heaven.

( show GAK 314: Samuel the Lamanite on the Wall)

Many Nephites believed Samuel. Those who did not believe threw stones and shot arrows at him as he stood on the wall, but they could not hit him. When some realized the Spirit of the Lord was protecting him, they too believed.

Even though the many tried to kill him, Samuel knew his message of Jesus Christ was so important.  He said he was telling them for a good reason. "And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name". (Helaman 14:12)

Even though those people could not see Jesus Christ right then, they listened to a Prophet testify and many believed.  Even though we can not see Jesus right now, we too can listen to the prophets testify and believe in Christ.

Bear your testimony about the birth and divinity of Jesus Christ.  That you know that He was born, that He lived and that He died for us so we can live again.
