On Monday I was sickitty-sick. During our regularly scheduled FHE time, I was upchucking. So we decided to delay until a later day this week. Meanwhile, last night began the Blizzard of the century here in the Philadelphia area...we are fast approaching 3-4 feet of snow. So, my husband closed his work early today and headed home around 10:00 AM. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to have our Family Home Evening.
So we started in on this week's lesson about Showing Love through Words. We must have been inspired when we made this schedule because we never could have known months ago that within the last two weeks our little Evangeline (age 2.5) would take to calling her big sister a "Poo-Poo-Pee". Lovely...isn't it?
The lesson went very well. My children especially seemed to cling towards the connection that certain words could invite the Spirit, while others drive Him away.
By far the best part was the Main Activity. We sat in a circle, on a horridly un-vacuumed floor, and tossed around a bean bag. We did three rounds so that each member said something nice about each other individual. I felt the Spirit enter our home and stay in our little circle of lovingly spoken compliments.
When it was Evangeline's turn to throw her bean bag to me she said, "Mommy is good at Family Home Evening." My tears flowed as I thought of the blessings that our family has enjoyed from making the commitment to having 100% FHE's in 2010. What an amazing way to begin a new decade and to teach our children in the way they should go.
